We all know that there is the majority of people in India who are either worked as labourers in different states of India or they worked outside the country. So people in India are major of migrating class as they are migrating in search of Job pr to do work. Due to migration, many people in India lies under the National Food Security Act (NFS) of 2013. Under NFS there is one shop in each state’s government and regulated by the government of India where regularly used foodgrains like wheat, rice, salt, etc are provided under very normal or cheap cost prices and also you can demand food from the government.

These days in Rajasthan wheat is provided at the cost of 1/KG and rice is provided at the cost of 2/Kg by the central government of India. Why it was launched?

All family in India has a Ration Card which states how many members are in the family and some other details regarding the family. The Ration Card also has information regarding the locality of that family. So whenever the member of a particular family went to buy the ration he/she get allotted a Fair Price Shop by the government which became a problem as when that family migrates to another state due to job then he has to pay the high price for the ration as they have the location of the previous allotted shop.

As a major class of family in India are of migrating class so there is no benefit for that family if they don’t get the benefit of that scheme. That is why in August 2019 One Nation One Ration Card Scheme Yojana is launched which states that the family can access the ration from any shop listed by the government in any state so now there is no problem with migrating and the family get ration at a low cost from any states irrespective of the address stated in the ration card.

So Pople who lies below the poverty line or has a very low source of earning get provided with food stocks at a very low price. The scheme was first initiated in August 2019.

Objectives of the One Nation One Ration Card Scheme

Challenges

  1. Exclusion Error

There is a challenge regarding the scheme as all local people know there is a Fair Price Shop in their area. But the problem occurs when a new person shifted to a new area then how can he/she find the Fair Price Shop?

  1. Logistical Data

One of the main challenges the government can face is the lack of logistical data as it may happen that many people went to the same shop or it also happens that in one shop only a few people go. Because it may happen that people of some states migrated to another state then that shop suffers from the lack of data and then all families will not get proper ration due to which the objective of this scheme will fail.

  1. Lack of Data

Lack of data also occurs as the government not find how much ration is going to a particular shop and how much to others due to which many leakages and loop whole may develop by the worker which will prove the loss to the government as well as the needy ones will not get their proper and adequate ration.

  1. Domicile-Based Social Spector Scheme

There is also a challenge to those states which run Ghar Ghar Ration Yojana under which the family member will not stand in line to get ration and the government will give thee ration to each home just like in Delhi. But the challenge occurs whether the migrants who are living in Delhi will get the ration or not and if they will not get then again the main objective of this scheme will lack and remain incomplete.

  1. Less Corruption and Exploitation

Different news articles have reported that migrants when migrating to another state can easily make their new ration card after giving some money which will get reduced.

Problem with the Scheme

There is a major problem regarding this scheme that the government was facing during the initial launching of the scheme. As some people bought the ration from low-cost shops then after travelling some distance they get the ration from another shop so that person got two rations from the same Ration Card which is not the right thing.

Its Solution

To solve the above-stated problem government decided to link the Ration Card with the Adhar Card. As Adhaar has the biometric information of the person and family. So during taking the ration, the family member has to give his thumbprint on the Point of Scale machine which the shop already has, and once the machine can his details then that particular family couldn’t get the ration from another shop and all people can get the benefit of the scheme.

Note: But still there is a problem exists as out of 5.46 lakhs shop this electronic Point of Scale (ePOS) machine is only available to 4.76 lakhs shop.

Extra details regarding the scheme which you should know

There are more than 5.56 lakhs shop in India which delivers the ration at a low cost and there are more than 22 Crore families in India which are of migrating class or lie below the poverty line. This scheme has now not been permitted in three states and one Union Territory of India which are Assam, West Bengal, Chandighar, and Delhi. Though the people who are the locals of that states will get access to ration those who are migrants means those who migrate to these states due to any reason have no access to ration from Fair Price Shop.

Now finally in 2022 across India One Nation One Ration Yojana is implemented.

Updated Fact: There is no need to take a physical ration card to get the ration. You just go to the Fair Price Shop and give your thumb print on the electronic Point Of Scale machine (ePOS) and that machine will automatically check our biometrics and when verified instantly you will get the foodgrains.
